Aspire Triton 2 Overview & Review

For those looking for a versatile, high performance tank, be they new or experienced vapers, the Triton 2 might well be the perfect option.

The Triton 2 is the updated version of the highly successful Triton tank system. Taking on board their customers’ feedback, Aspire have addressed some of the most common complaints about the tank; chief among them the inability to fully disassemble the tank for cleaning. To accommodate this, the overall capacity of the tank has been reduced from 3.5ml to 3ml, so it will be down to the user to work out whether or not this is a worthy tradeoff. All the Triton’s key features, however, remain. The top fill system remains, as does the massive amount of airflow customisation that made the original tank stand out. Aspire have also added a new heatsink under the drip to help to dissipate the heat associated with the high power sub ohm vaping that the Triton excels at, alongside larger juice flow holes leading to the coil to avoid dry hits with thick, VG-heavy juices. The heatsink also acts as a grip to aid the removal of the drip tip system for refilling, which now screws into the tank instead of being held in with just an o-ring.

New Tank Size

Size-wise, the Triton 2 sits slightly shorter than the original Triton, standing at 67mm tall, against the original’s 73mm. The updated model now measures 22.5mm in diameter, however. As a result, there will be a minuscule amount of overhang on 22mm devices, but it is so small that you would have to look extremely close to notice.

Functionality

Much like the original Triton, the Triton 2 has excellent performance, on par with the heavy hitters of the current crop of sub-ohm tanks, and with the addition of Aspire’s brand new clapton coils, in some ways surpasses them.

Using and filling the tank is incredibly easy thanks to the consistently excellent machining and thoughtful placement of raised sections to aid with gripping the various parts of the tank that can be adjusted. While the airflow control ring doesn’t click into place, it has a nice amount of resistance to it allowing you to fine tune the exact amount of airflow that suits the way you vape. Thanks to it’s separated chamber design, I’ve yet to have it leak when either filling the tank or changing the coil, even when the tank itself is full.

The Triton 2 comes preinstalled with Aspire’s brand new Clapton coils, offering a greater surface area on the coil to facilitate greater vapour production, and is a marked improvement over the original coils in terms of flavour. Rated at 0.5 ohms, these new coils are recommended for use between 40 and 45 watts. Also in the box is a 1.8 ohm coil designed for mouth to lung vaping between 10 and 13 watts, which according to a friend who exclusively uses a mouth to lung vape, is the best tank for this purpose on the market. The brand new clapton coil is a highly impressive piece of engineering and the star of the show with the Triton 2, giving off a thick, dense cloud of vapour. So far, using the clapton coil at 40 watts I have not had a single dry hit even after putting around 15 tanks of 70-100% VG juice through it. Very impressive indeed. It is worth pointing out that any coil in the new range will need time to prime, especially with higher power coils. The regular Triton coils have not gone without an update either, eschewing regular kanthal wire in favour of surgical grade stainless steel, available in either 0.3 or 0.4 ohm varieties, enabling the coils to have a much greater surface area than their kanthal counterparts at the same resistance, making for a more dense and flavourful vape. All of the new Triton coils are wicked with Japanese organic cotton. The new lineup of coils makes the Triton 2 one of the most versatile tanks available right now.

In the couple of weeks I’ve been using it, the Triton 2 has proved to be one of the most useable, leak free and satisfying vaping experiences to come out of a sub ohm tank yet. With the sub ohm coils, the tank has a vapour output that is pushing the tank world ever closer to rivalling RDAs, and consistently produces a satisfyingly warm vape that is dripping with flavour. It comes highly recommended as one of the best choices if you’re in the market for a sub-ohm tank, or for a high capacity tank that excels as a mouth to lung style vape.
