Vape Hardware Staff Picks

With so much hardware out there it’s sometimes difficult knowing what to buy next. Our dedicated team of product experts are always ready to help. This week they’re here to give you their thoughts on some of their favourite vape tanks, vape kits and vape starter kits.

The Vaporesso Nexus

The Vaporesso Nexus is a compact all in one (AIO) vape kit. Powered by a built in 600mAh battery that is rechargeable via USB and featuring a 2ml eliquid capacity, the Nexus is ideal for new users and existing vapers looking for a small vape.

The recommendation of the Nexus comes to us from Josh who says: ‘With adjustable airflow and the ability to use salt nicotine ejuices this is a device that’s not only portable but keeping with the times, especially when you factor in the ceramic coils it uses for better flavour.’

The Joyetech eGo AIO ECO

The Joyetech eGo AIO ECO is a pen vape kit with a minimalist style and specially designed battery technology, which extends the lifespan of the 650mAh built in battery by optimising power output. Joyetech have reported that the ECO can get through two tanks of higher PG eliquid before needing to be charged.

Kieran suggested the Joyetech eGo: ‘This is a device I can take with me wherever I might be going, I fill it up in the morning and I’m pretty much set for the day. You also get a mouth to lung inhale thanks to the ECO Coils so it really suits people who have just switched over to vaping.’

The Innokin Proton Kit

The Innokin Proton Kit is a high powered dual 18650 battery mod designed for high wattage and sub ohm vaping. With a maximum 235W output and a custom chipset this is a device for advanced users. Featuring a full colour screen that’s controlled by a tactile joystick. The kit comes with the Scion 2 vape tank, which has top filling and the new Plexus Coil.

The Proton Kit has been recommended to us by Ben: ‘This kit creates massive clouds without sacrificing flavour, it also fits really nicely in your hand because of it’s ergonomic design. The screen is very clear without being too flash. The Scion 2 Tank has a responsive adjustable airflow so you can control the inhale and cloud.’

The Wismec RX GEN3 Dual Mod

The Wismec RX GEN3 is the latest incarnation of the classic Reuleaux design. Powered by dual 18650 batteries and boasting a 230W maximum output this is a mod that works well with sub ohm tanks and RDAs alike. A 1.3 inch OLED screen displays the various output modes available to the user, including variable wattage and temperature control.

Kathryn has recommended the RX GEN3: ‘It’s a classic for a reason, it has a distinctive look and a user friendly design, the first time I picked it up it just fit so well. I also like the fact that Wismec have switched to dual 18650 batteries as it makes it a bit lighter than older models without sacrificing too much power.’

The Vaporesso Cascade Tank

The Vaporesso Cascade Tank is a 2ml sub ohm tank that balances flavour and cloud production. Precision machining means that this tank is easy to assemble and disassemble, the new Isolation Tank Structure reduces the amount of dry hits by ensuring that when filled the coils are always wicked with eliquid.

The Vaporesso Cascade is a personal favourite of Jack: ‘The airflow on this tank is outstanding, by using triple airflow there is increased cloud and flavours in eliquid are clearer. This tank also has plug and pull coils meaning I can quickly replace my coil which is really convenient.’

Pod Vapes 2018: Closed and Refillable Systems Explained

Even the simplest vape device can appear daunting to new users. The risk of leaks, faulty batteries and even the hassle of refilling; are all reasons that stop people making the move over to ecigarettes. Well, the pod vape changes that. There are two classifications for pod vape kits: Open or Refillable Systems and Closed Systems. The video below is our brief introduction into pod devices.

Closed Systems are ideal for new starters – they include disposable pods which contain both a coil and up to 2ml of high nicotine eliquid, simply plug it into the accompanying mod and you’re ready to go. This coupled with a tight mouth to lung draw, that mimics that of a cigarette and one button operation; make this a range of vape devices that are simple to use and maintain.

For those who like a bit of variety there’s the open system; still utilising pods, the open system uses refillable pods which can be filled with the High PG eliquid of your choice. This can act as a stepping stone towards sub ohm vaping.

Today, we’re going to walk you through some prime examples of pod vapes. Each have their own unique features and benefits, designed for new users and existing vapers looking to simplify things.

Before we get started, some honourable mentions for upcoming releases for pod vape kits in 2018 include the JustFog MINIFITPerkey EcardSmok FITSmok Infinix, and Sigelei M Class. Check out our video below for a beginner’s guide to pod kits.

SMPO Ultra Portable Starter Kit

The SMPO comes to us courtesy of Nex Labs, this London-based design team have created a stylish yet functional vape device. Using the closed pod system the user simply has to install their pod and get to vaping. Being breath activated means that the user can control their vapour production, plus an included low liquid indicator and temperature control make this device a real winner.

Kimsun Slim 2R

If you’re looking for a vape device that matches ergonomics and durability then look no further than the Kimsun Slim 2R. The Kimsun is an open system pod vape, allowing the user to fill the pod with their choice of high nicotine eliquid. What sets the Kimsun apart are the safety features built into the device, including short circuit protection, overtime protection and low voltage protection. Giving the user peace of mind and more time to enjoy their vape.

Aspire Gusto Mini Kit

Aspire have hit the mark with the Gusto Mini. Through it’s intuitive design and collaboration with ejuice giant Element Eliquids, the Gusto provides the user with a device that provides good cloud and great flavour. The NS20 eLiquid pods are filled with Element’s own blend of eliquids and salt nicotine, giving the user the high nicotine that they crave – but with a smoother taste. The NS20 range is also available for those that use refillable vape kits, with the NS20 10ml eLiquid range.

My Blu Starter Kit

Simple yet elegant the My Blu Starter Kit is a pod vape that means business. This is a closed pod device, but users need not worry about a lack of choice, Blu have bought out a large range of eliquid pods to go with the kit. These pods click easily into place and the device is activated by inhaling. Meaning this is a device you can use straight out of the box.

Guide to 20700 and 21700 Vape Batteries

It’s a situation that we’ve all found ourselves in, you’re out and about happily vaping away on your 18650 powered mod and the dreaded low power message flashes up. That’s it, game over; everyone go home.

Maybe a tad dramatic but you get the point. Vaping, like most battery powered technology, has been held back to a degree by battery capacity, luckily for us – necessity is the mother of invention. With the recent surge of 20700 and 21700 batteries, vapers are being given access to a power source that matches their needs.

All of the 18650, 20700, and 21700 vape batteries get their name from their size dimensions. An 18650 battery has an 18mm diameter and a 65mm length, with a 20700 battery having 20mm diameter and 70mm, and the slightly larger 21700 battery being almost the same size as the 20700, but 21mm in diameter. On the face of it these dimensions are quite similar. The difference in performance however, is very noticeable.

There are a number of advantages to the 20700 and  21700 vape batteries. They generally have an increased mAh output compared to 18650 batteries as well as a longer lifespan, sometimes up to 13 months depending on how heavily they’re used. Perhaps most importantly, they can help increase the battery life of your favourite mod. Most mods that take a 21700 will also fit a 20700, so it seems these two batteries almost go hand in hand together.

With this in mind, we’re going to give you a rundown of some of the best 20700 and 21700 vape devices currently available on the market.

Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 Kit

A reimagining of the classic Eleaf design, the iStick Pico 21700 is an easy to use starter kit, that benefits from an increased battery life and a maximum output of 100w. Included with the kit is the Ello vape tank, which features a wide flow and uses low resistance atomisers. Overall this is the perfect mod for someone looking to get into sub ohm vaping, and who will benefit from using a 21700. If this seems a bit daunting, don’t panic, the kit is also compatible with an 18650 0r 20700 battery!

Wismec RX2 21700 Box

Well, Wismec have done it again, the latest in the incredibly popular series of RX vape mods, the RX2 21700 mod features the chunky design and smooth curves that made the original such a hit. The new version has 2A charging, which means you’ll be up and running faster than usual, when those dual 21700 batteries eventually do run flat. With the included battery adaptor, the RX2 can also support dual 18650s.

Geekvape Blade 235W Box

The Geekvape Blade 235W TC is a vape device that has much of the functionality usually confined to high end vape mods, including: variable power control – five programmable wattage presets the user can select, for the Blade to fire at sequentially and Bypass Mode – allowing the device to draw power directly from the battery, like a mechanical mod. This combined with a colourful design, makes for an eye-catching dual 21700 battery mod. The Blade also comes with a battery adaptor, meaning it can use dual 20700 batteries or 18650 batteries as an alternative.

Lost Vape Mirage DNA75C Box

The Mirage DNA75C Box is powered by a single 21700 battery and utilises the powerful Evolv DNA75 Chipset, allowing for consistent firing rate and balanced output features with a maximum output of 75W. Furthermore, it has a strong aesthetic, thanks to the resin inlay, providing each with a unique colour swirl pattern. What’s more, by fitting the battery adaptor the Mirage can be powered by an single 18650 or 20700 rather than a 21700 battery. If you’re looking for a mod that holds it charge and looks good while doing it, you’re in safe hands with the Mirage.

Ijoy Capo 100w Squonk Kit

Even squonk enthusiasts aren’t being left out in the 21700 battery movement. The Ijoy Capo 100w Squonk Box is powered by a single 21700 battery, with the option of using an 18650 or 20700 when used with the correct adaptor included. The Capo has a generously sized 9ml squonk bottle – fill that up and you’re good to go. The kit also includes the Ijoy Combo RDA, with it’s angled build deck that will fit a range of coils. Those looking to take the plunge into squonking with a big battery reserve need look no further than the Ijoy Capo 100w Squonk Kit.

Summary

As can be seen, both the 20700 and the 21700 battery are both becoming a staple power source for vapers, for both vape starter kits and high-performance box mods, giving vapers of all levels access to better-performing vape devices.

Aspire Gusto Mini Vape Kit + Element’s NS20 Salt Nicotine eLiquid Pods

aspire-gusto-mini-element-ns20-eliquid

The combined effort of one of the most popular eLiquid manufacturers with one of the best vaping hardware manufacturers on the planet, the Aspire Gusto Mini kit is the result of the teaming up of Aspire and Element’s NS20 eLiquid range.

The Gusto Kit is a compact closed system that employs the use of pre-filled pods. So no filling or refilling, no fiddling with coils, no real need to know anything at all other than 5 clicks to turn it on and 5 clicks to turn it off.

aspire-gusto-mini-element-ns20-eliquid-3

The kit itself is, as the name suggests, is mini and compact in size, fitting easily in the palm of the hand. For the same reason, the Gusto Mini is also extremely pocketable and travel friendly, and weighing in at just over 60 grams, it’s very lightweight.

With a 900 mAh battery capacity the Gusto Mini should get the average vaper through the course of a day without needing to recharge, which is done via a supplied micro USB charging cable. The airflow options are fixed, which may put off some vapers, but due to a clever design, it’s possible to use the Gusto Mini as both a mouth to lung or direct to lung device.

The Aspire Gusto Mini is only compatible with Element’s NS20 eLiquid pods, with each pod filled with Element’s Nicotine Salt based eLiquid that come only in 20mg nicotine strength.

Element’s NS20 pods work slightly differently to the average eLiquid in that the nicotine ‘hits’ the user sooner, and more efficiently, and more like a traditional cigarette. Not only this but NS20 pods are very smooth on the throat. For those that are familiar with vaping already, the throat hit on NS20’s 20mg is akin to that of the average 3mg eLiquid.

element-ns20-eliquid-range2

All that being said, let’s get down to the flavours, where Element’s NS20 pods do well again. Only the flavour of the eLiquid comes through with NS20 which makes for a much more enjoyable vape, as you cannot taste the nicotine the same way you can when vaping on a traditional 18mg for example.

Due to the efficiency in delivering nicotine users will notice that they will need to vape less often and less in general before feeling satisfied, and due to this, we ask vapers, new and old alike, to please take their time when first using NS20 pods to be sure to not overdo it. Take it slow to begin with until you are more familiar with it and know how it works.

Joyetech ATOPACK Penguin Kit: Vape Overview

joyetech-penguin-vape-kit

Always at the forefront of innovation and looking at things a little differently, Joyetech have been a solid performer on the vaping market for the last few years, producing some well-reviewed pieces of kit, such as the EVIC series and AIO range.

One of their latest devices, the ATOPACK Penguin Kit, is a compact and smoothly-designed all-in-one kit that’s very easy to operate and use. It features a one button operation that’s ideal for newer vapers who just want to something to get them going, and a very ergonomic design that’s easy to grip and hold comfortably.

The Penguin mod features a built-in battery with a 2000mAh capacity; easily enough to give keep the average user vaping through a full day.

The battery is charged using USB lead, with the charging port located on the front of the device, below the firing button, and with a 2A Fast Charging port, recharging the battery doesn’t take very long at all. A simple LED system illustrates how much charge remains in the battery.

joyetech-penguin-atopack-kit-range2

The Penguin vape tank holds a whopping 8.8ml, but due to the TPD / TRPR regulations this has obviously had to be reduced down to 2ml to comply.

The tank uses a specially designed JVIC coil, placed horizontally into the tank system. The Penguin coils are partly constructed from Ceramic, allowing for a more even spread of heat distribution and a fuller vaping experience. Using a ceramic coil is slightly different than vaping with a standard one, as ‘chain vaping’ a device that uses a ceramic coil can cause dry hits for the user, due to the slightly slower ramp up time for ceramics.

The kit comes supplied with a pair of sub-ohm coils (a 0.25Ω and a 0.6Ω), which are intended to be used at higher wattages, and with thicker, High VG eLiquids.

Due to these low resistance coils, users may find themselves having to refill sooner than they may like, as a 2ml capacity tank will drain down rather quickly with prolonged use.

joyetech-penguin-atopack-kit-range

The Penguin Kit is very easy to use, but it’s lack of variable controls may put some users off, as the output is essentially dictated by which coil is used. It has a great design, fitting very comfortably in hand.

Using the device will require a little bit more patience than using a normal device, as its ceramic coils do take a fraction longer to heat up than standard coils. Those that like to chain vape big gulps will need to be mindful using the device, as heavy-handed users may experience a dry hit or two.

Innokin MVP4 Mod: Vape Overview

innokin-mvp4-blog-header

Retaining many of the features of its predecessors, Innokin’s MVP4 looks to keep everything that was liked about the originals, while improving on the design and functionality.

Innokin have come a long way from the earlier MVP models that only featured around 15W of output. Now in its fourth iteration, the MVP4 still retains that box-like shape and a huge battery capacity that will be familiar to users of the previous models.

innokin-mvp4-blogWhile the MVP3 had just 30W of output, with its PRO version ramping this output up to 60W, the MVP4 manages to crank out 100W of vaping power, and also features a rather large 4500mAh integrated battery; similar to the Pro version.

This huge battery offers a generous amount of vaping time, and would last the average vaper easily over a day. It also allows other devices to be charged via the port at the bottom, meaning it can function as a power bank if need be.

The Innokin MVP4 is powered by their innovative Aethon microchip, which has advanced yet very easy-to-use Temperature Control (TC) capabilities that include Stainless Steel SS316L, Ni200, and Titanium, along with standard Kanthal. The MVP4 also has the ability to detect and avoid dry hits and features over-charge safety precautions.

High-quality Stainless Steel threading and a gold-plated connection pin allows for the current to flow smoothly, and its 510 thread means its compatible with the vast majority of tanks on the current market.

A large OLED screen situated on the side of the device displays all necessary user information, such as wattage, temperature, and charge levels, while the robust and sturdy design means the MVP4 can take the knocks and scrapes that daily life throws at it.

Innokin have included a 2A quick-charge with the MVP4, meaning that the battery will charge at a much faster rate than previous models. As well, the device features pass-through capabilities, so it can be used while it’s charging.

Aspire Nautilus 2 Tank: Vape Preview

aspire-nautilus-2-vape-tank

Aspire’s Nautilus tanks are well known among vaping circles, as they were one of the early devices to be adopted by a wide number of people.

Feedback on the tank has always been positive, both the full-size Nautilus and the Mini.

Aspire released the Nautilus X tank last year, but it was met with some disappointment from the vaping community who felt that it wasn’t an improvement on the original design. nautilus-2-tank-fill

Now Aspire have the Nautilus 2, launching it as if it’s the sequel to The Avengers; “The Legend Never Ends”.

The Nautilus 2 design is similar to that of its earlier predecessors, rather than the X, as it features a bell-shaped design.

It’s also completely enclosed in Steel, with a small circular window to allow the user to observe eLiquid levels in the tank.

Similar to the Nautilus X, the Nautilus 2 features a Top-Fill design, and with a 2ml capacity its fully TRPR compliant.

It maintains the compact design of the previous models, but takes the more curved look of the original Nautilus and Mini tanks, rather than the squat square shape of the X.

Aspire have redesigned the airflow system for the Nautilus 2, neither featuring a Top Airflow like the X, or the single hole design of the original models.

This new Nautilus instead features a bottom-airflow with five settings, ranging from open to tight.

It’s a much more accurate airflow, which allows the user to really dial in an precise airflow setting.

The Nautilus 2 itself comes with a 0.7Ω coil, allowing the device to be a Sub Ohm tank for the first time. Other coils are also available, including a standard Mouth-to-Lung 1.8Ω.

Vaporesso Drizzle Kit: Vape Overview

vaporesso-drizzle-kit

Already well known for their innovatively designed devices and kits, Vaporesso have managed to compact a 1000mAh battery into a vaping device that’s just over 10cm in height; just bigger than a cigarette lighter! Vaporesso have produced some interesting looking devices in their time; the Attitude Kit, the Target Pro with its trigger-pull design; the Tarot Pro with its intricately patterned side-panels. Even the tiny Target Mini!

drizzle-kit-up-1

The Drizzle Kit is Vaporesso’s foray into a compact pen-sized device, featuring a 1.8ml TRPR compliant tank with a 1000mAh battery. As we mentioned, the device is exceptionally small, but for its size, it does manage to pack in a lot of dense features.

Most 1000mAh battery mods are a lot bigger, but Vaporesso have managed to squeeze this battery capacity into a mod of nearly half the standard size!

The Drizzle Kit is a positively compact piece of vaping hardware. The 1.8ml TRPR compliant tank features a top filling mechanism, which allows the tank to be refilled with relative ease and without mess.

Its Top Airflow allows the user to dial in a suitable setting, ranging from a closed and tight vape to a wide-open air slot.

The tank is also leak-resistant, as it forms a ‘cup’ shape, with no way eLiquid can escape at the bottom of the tank.

Primarily designed for Mouth-to-Lung vaping, The Drizzle Kit comes supplied with two coils; a 1.3Ω Ceramic EUC coil, and a 1.4Ω standard coil. While these are Vaporesso’s EUC coils, they differ slightly to the full size ones; being smaller. Instead these are referred to as ‘EUC Drizzle’ coils, and will only work with the Drizzle Kit.

BO eCig: Liquid Capsule Vaping Kit

bo-vaping-ecig-capsule

With the upcoming government legislation set to over-regulate and quash certain aspects of vaping culture, innovative designers and inventors from far and wide around the globe have been busy working their brains in an attempt to try and figure out a way around the problem.

bo-ecig-charger

There’s big tobacco’s “heat, not burn” process, which, unlike vaping we’ve been used to in the past few years, uses actual real tobacco leaf to acquire nicotine from. The tobacco is heated to the point of vaporization, but not combustion, as fire is what produces so many of the nasty chemicals that infect our bodies from smoking tobacco.

Alternatively, a few different companies have been experimenting with a “vape pod” or “liquid pod” based system, where a small disposable capsule filled with eLiquid and a heating element is used instead of a refillable tank; very similar to the early “cigalikes” that vapers were using a few years ago.

While we’ve looked at a few pod-based systems already, including the My Von Erl Starter Kit, there are more and more of these liquid pod devices being produced; one of which being the BO eCig Starter Kit, which is manufactured in France.

While its name may conjure up thoughts of fragrant armpits, the BO kit instead offers a colour-coded pod system that utilizes a thin rechargeable battery charged via a magnetic USB port. The USB is suitable for use with laptop or an easily accessible USB slot, although users of tower computers may find it more difficult.

Alternatively BO have a charging cable as an alternative means of charging, as well as their BO Power unit; a personalisable charging station with a 1500mAh internal battery, and this allows the BO eCig to be charged four times before the power bank itself will need a recharge, as well via USB cable.

bo-ecig-liquid-cap

The BO eLiquid pods, or ‘caps’ as BO refer to them as, are 1.5ml in capacity, and contain both the coil and heating element in the cap. These caps have a one-use design and are intended to be disposed of when the eLiquid in the cap has run out.

The BO eLiquid range features a wide-range of different flavours to try; twelve in total. BO’s flavours are divided into four categories; Tobacco, Fruit, Mint, and ‘Gourmand’, with flavour blends such as Complex Tobacco, Peach Smoothie, Lemon Cream, and Polar mint, to name a few.

Although its just been released, BO do have further plans that unfortunately we’re not permitted to disclose at the moment, but be assured that the BO eLiquid range will likely be extended to include many, many more flavour blends.

All in all, the BO starter kit, like the other disposable pod eCig devices, is suitable for a brand new vaper due to its incredible ease of use when compared to more complicated devices. The BO kit can be easily assembled and used within a matter of seconds, with its button-less operation ensuring its easy for new vapers to get to grips with.
