Vaporesso Nalu RDA: Vape Tank Overview

From the creative minds behind the excellent Target Pro Kit, as well as the Guardian and Gemini tanks, the Vaporesso Nalu RDA is the company’s first attempt on an RDA, and a phenomenal result they’ve had with this device. Rather unique with its window and dual-holed posts, the Nalu seems to crafted like no other RDA on the current market.

Measuring 24mm in diameter, the Nalu is compatible with most mods on the current market. It features a double holed velocity-style deck, a design that seems to be becoming increasingly popular among vape manufacturers. Vaporesso’s Nalu RDA comes with two extra drip tips (blue and pink) in the box, as well as a squonky pin for use with squonk mods, along with two coils and a few other goodies. The Nalu itself has a rather distinctive, almost futuristic look with its glass windows on both sides of the tank.

With its appearance quite similar to a mini version of the Geekvape Tsunami 24 RDA Glass (as both devices have glass windows and optional sqounking pins), the Vaporesso Nalu instead has its window constructed of pyrex glass, ensuring no cracking or clouding will happen with use.

The Nalu RDA features an adjustable airflow and can also be used with a single coil, producing great vapour production due to the airflow port being at the bottom of the device.

With a deep juice well and a leak-resistance design, the Nalu gives users the option to drip and refill eLiquid without worrying about leaks, while the drip tip is wide and short making it much easier to drip onto the coils without taking the tank apart. In addition to the short drip tips, the pyrex glass window allows a keen eye to be kept on the cotton and coils, helping the user to prevent dry wicks and burnt cotton.

The build deck is constructed in the popular velocity style, featuring two posts with enlarged double postholes allowing for an easier and more convenient installation of coils. The squonk pin allows the Nalu to be used with mods that have squonking abilities, and this RDA will work perfectly on devices such as the Kangertech Dripbox 60w, as well as its larger 160w cousin.

Disappointingly Vaporesso’s Nalu doesn’t feature a 510 drip tip adapter, meaning users unfortunately wont be able to use their own drip tip. Also the drip tips included with the RDA are very short and quite close to the top cap, so users that vape at high wattages and temperatures, or using complex builds, will need to be mindful of the drip tip, as it will likely get very hot to touch.

The Vaporesso Nalu would be ideal for vapers who suffer from bad habits of letting the coil run dry and getting a dry hit, as the pyrex glass window allows the user to see how much eLiquid is left. The airflow situated under the coils also allows for a decent flow of air as well as great vapour production for those looking for clouds. It’s a great starter RDA for those looking to get into dripping, but wish to avoid a more basic kit such as Kanger’s DripBox 160W.

How To Install And Use Premade Coils On Your RDA

Building coils can be a slightly intimidating and daunting task, but they shouldn’t be considered completely out of the realm of possibility. They’re a great way to vape your eLiquid, although requiring a slightly different method to use properly.

If you’re interested in rebuilding, we’d recommend getting yourself some pre-built coils to use in your RDA. From regular and simplified wound coils, to the more advanced claptons and hive coils, we stock a wide range to suit every vapers need.

All you’ll need to do is select your RDA or RDTA, and use the following steps to install your pre-built coils onto the deck.

Clean your RDA of eliquid, removing the cotton old coils and cotton
Select and prepare your new coils
Insert the new coils into the posts, and gently tighten screws to secure
Centre the coil with a screwdriver, and use wire cutters to trim legs
Use an ohm reader to check your resistance and make sure there are no shorting problems
While firing the coils use ceramic tweezers to gently squeeze them to ensure the coils heat up evenly
Cut a strip of wicking material a similar size to the coil – twist into shape
Insert the cotton through each coil, trim any excess evenly, tucking the cotton into the well.
Add juice until your cotton is nice and saturated

KangerTech DripBox 160W Kit: An Overview

Bridging the gap between full-on RDA territory and beginner friendliness, Kanger’s latest hybrid device is both dripper, squonk, and semi-tank. The Dripbox 160W Kit is an upgraded version of the 60W Dripbox, offering 100 more watts of output.

Powered by dual 18650’s, the DripBox is an excellent regulated device designed for vapers who are interested in dripping, but are not looking to be thrown right in at the deep end.

Similar to the DripBox 60W, this latest iteration reads coils as low as 0.2ohm (Ω), and also includes the squonk feeding tube to allow for easy rewicking of the cotton; instead of manually dripping onto your coils, there’s a squeezy 7ml bottle fitted into the mod that allows an easy ‘redripping’ of your atomiser.

Now included with the Dripbox 160W is a “velocity-style deck” with double holes on each post, making it easier to install your premade coils, and the Dripbox’s SubDrip deck is designed to offer a choice between either direct lung or mouth to lung, as the airflow can be easily adjusted to accommodate for both methods of vaping.

The previous Dripbox had a constant maximum output of 60w without offering any variable adjustments, but with the 160W, Kanger have included both adjustable wattage, ranging from 7W to 160W, and also temperature control (TC) settings, with options of Nickel, Nichrome, Titanium and Stainless steel (200F – 600F or 100C – 230C). One of the biggest changes is the inclusion of an OLED screen, which the previous DripBox lacked.

One of the downsides to the Dripbox 160W is that due to its dual 18650 battery requirements, it can be a little heavy to hand, especially for people that aren’t used to carrying around bigger and weightier devices, but overall Kanger’s Dripbox 160w is bigger and better than its predecessor, and its altered size and shape offer an improved ergonomic feeling in the hand, rather than being a detriment.

It’s inclusion of a variable wattage mode and TC options, along with its squonky mechanism make it a very easy-to-use dripping device that’s perfect for beginners, and also as a great improvement over the Dripbox 60w, if you’re thinking of upgrading

The 160W kit comes with the Subdrip deck, the Dripbox 160W, a spare squeezy bottle, an added anti spit back system, a spare deck, and some Clapton premade coils reading at 0.3ohm.

For those that are used to their usual sub-ohm tanks and do not know how to install premade coils, it is possible to purchase replaceable prebuilt coil decks that have cotton installed, similar to its predecessor, meaning you can attain the dripping experience, with none of the fiddliness of installing coils and cotton. kangertech-dripbox-160-exploded-view-l

Uwell Rafale X: RDA Overview

rafale-x-rda-atty-deck Well known for their Rafale and Crown Sub Ohm Tanks, Uwell’s Rafale X RDA is a high-quality piece of vaping hardware that provides a solid RDA experience, and is yet slightly different than what you may be used to already.

Measuring 24mm in diameter, the Rafale X appears like any other RDA at first glance, but it’s under the hood where this RDA really shines, as its deck features a unique, four-post design.

However, unlike other four-post RDA’s that feature two positive and two negative posts, the Rafale X contains only one of each, and instead has a double neutral post (dummy post) in the centre.

This neutral post enables the Rafale X to do some unusual things with its coil resistance, as instead of halving it, the Rafale X instead doubles it.

For example, installing 2 x 0.5ohm (Ω) pre-made coils on any other four-post RDA would give it a reading of 0.25Ω, but using the Rafale X’s neutral posts would instead give a reading of 1.0Ω, using a Dual Coil build.

There are two ways of building a deck with the Rafale X; either as a traditional RDA using only the outer posts, meaning the resistance of the coils will half (if using dual coils), or alternatively all four posts can be used, which will double the resistance, as mentioned above.

If you prefer to build on it like a traditional RDA (using the outer posts) then you can take the centre neutral post out. This offers much more room to build, and allows the deck to be enlarged and spaced out more, allowing for complex builds such as Claptons, fused Claptons, Parallels, Verticals, and many more combinations to be installed.

Another great feature included with the Rafale X is its corkscrew-shaped ASB (Anti Spit Back) drip tip system, which ensures that you won’t get hot eliquid spat back at your throat when firing it up.

The Rafale X is recommended for advanced users that are familiar with installing pre-built coils and ohms law. We always advise going into a vape shop and speaking to someone directly regarding RDA’s, and we don’t recommend using an RDA unless you have an understanding of Ohm’s Law, and possess an ohms reader.

Kanger DripBox Overview

Kanger’s Dripbox is the company’s first foray into the world of drippers, or RDAs (rebuildable dripping atomisers) as they’re known. Drippers are mainly designed for more experienced vapers, but the DripBox allows for an easier and relatively safer method of achieving this method of vaping, and is an excellent way of introducing yourself to the world of dripping.

The twist is, instead of manually dripping liquid onto the top of the coils, as you would on a normal dripper, the Dripbox has a 7ml refillable bottle, which allows you to simply squeeze liquid up into the atomiser itself. In the weird and wonderful world of vaping, this is known as ‘squonking’.

The kit is made up of two main components; the Dripbox mod itself, and the Subdrip; the bottom fed dripping atomiser. The Dripbox itself has a consistent 60w output that cannot be adjusted, and is capable of firing down to 0.2 ohms.

The Subdrip is designed with people who are brand new to this style of vaping in mind. For those who aren’t particularly interested in building coils, there are replaceable prebuilt coil decks available to give the subdrip a very similar functionality to the tanks we’ve all been using for the last few years, and have come to know and love. kanger-dripbox-subdrip-mod

This all adds up to an experience that has none of the complexity and needs none of the technical knowledge or dexterity that traditional high performance vaping demands. Instead of the giant box mods and quad twisted alien clapton double backflip coils that we’ve all seen on Instagram, here we have a compact, plug and play style device that simply works. All you need to get going with it is a battery and some liquid.

Despite it’s fixed output, the kit has excellent performance. The Subdrip itself has a massive dual slot airflow that can be adjusted to suit your particular needs. You’re never going to be using this as a mouth to lung, but the available range is nonetheless welcomed if you want a little more resistance on your inhale than inhaling through a chimney.

Other than this, there isn’t a whole lot else to take into account when using the kit. Simply fill it up with your favourite liquid, give it a ‘squonk’, and vape away to your hearts content.
